ABOUT

This was all shot for real.

Anamorphosis is a distorted projection or perspective requiring the viewer to occupy a specific vantage point to view the image correctly.

I pitched this concept to Avaunt Magazine. I worked with anamorphosis specialists to lay down the court in a disused swimming pool in Glasgow, UK. We used 1.5 miles of blue gaffer tape to create the installation, based around the viewpoint from the upper terrace around the pool. The anamorphic tennis court was created entirely for real with retouching limited to colour balancing and cleaning.

I photographed the parkour athletes playing tennis from a variety of viewpoints. Since the anamorphosis only ‘works’ from a single perspective, changing the camera position allowed me to build a series of images which was initially relatively abstract, with unexplained blue lines running across the pool floor, and moved towards the final images, revealing the shape of the tennis court.
