About me
We're all creatives deep down. It's ingrained in us. We don't realise it but we all create every single day - communicating, cooking, choosing whichever path the day has in store for us.
I've always loved storytelling. My earliest memories are of my mother reciting her own fictional stories about a boy called Jonathan, who would go on adventures around the world in his hot-air balloon. As soon as I was old enough to use a camera, I would be endlessly filming setups of comedy sketches / bizarre musical performances. Studying film at university then fed my thirst for cinematic theory and afterwards landing a job creating sports adverts, then truly felt like the stars aligning, being able to juggle my two loves - film and sport - in one orchestrated / extremely wobbly dance.
My creative process is usually a Blackpool pier-esque rollercoaster of emotions...
This is going to be amazing

...and I can't lie, I love the ebb and flow of it! You can't have the sunshine without the rain, the pleasure without the pain!
I'm a big believer in collaboration, you're only as good as the team you have around you. No head chef gets to where they are without a ferocious sous chef. I think it's really important to put trust in the rest of your team and respect their opinion in their field. When an entire team can truly align, working towards the same vision, the results will always be unrivalled.
Artistic inspiration is a staple of my life, going to the cinema, viewing an exhibition, but even seeking beauty in the norm - going on a lunchtime walk, watching the birds tweeting and a mother pushing her child on a playground swing. We are constantly surrounded by the ordinary and extraordinary, it's just which lens you choose to look through.
I probably have some form of undiagnosed OCD because it's fair to say I'm a bit of a perfectionist. I'll watch an edit, again, and again, and again, and again (how long have you got here because I really could go on
I follow the same pattern for idea creation each and every time - insight, idea, execution. These steps are biblical to me, fundamental. Without one, the other two fall apart and they are all as equally as important as one another. The process can sometimes differ, at times it can be clunky, difficult, back and forth, up and down, yet other times, it can as smooth as you like and organic - but, regardless of the calm or choppy waters, that ship of ideas should always be built with insight, idea, execution.
I love what I do, and I carry that mantra into every piece of work I make. The client's feedback is important, and I'll always respect that and our industry, but deep down, I make work to fuel my soul. I want to get lost in a piece of work. I want something to move me, make me laugh, be ORIGINAL. We live in an era of fast food media, so it's very difficult to create something authentic, but it can be done, and it's what I aim to do each and every time.
I'll end with a quote from Picasso...
"Learn the rules like a pro, so you can break them like an artist."
